Setting up an email account in Outlook 365

This article explains how to set up an e-mail account within the Outlook 365 email client.

Before you get started, you will need the following:
 
  • incoming mail server and port (for example, "mail.mailator.com" and port 993)
    Please note that the port number for POP3 is 995, if using IMAP then the port number is 993.
  • outgoing mail server and port (for example, "mail.mailator.com" and port 25)
    Please note that the port number for SMTP is 25 without SSL, if using SSL then the port number is 465.
  • your email account username/address (for example, "hello@weblator.com")
  • your email account password
To configure your new account:
 
  1. Navigate to File > Account Information > Add Account.
  2. Select Manual setup or additional server types.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Choose IMAP.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Enter your User Information.
  7. Enter your Server Information (as per the above).
  8. Enter your Logon Information (username is your email address)
  9. Click on the More Settings... button.
  10. Click on the Outgoing Server tab.
  11. Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox, and leave it selected as 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server'.
  12. Click on the Advanced tab.
  13. Select 'SSL' encryption connection for both incoming and outgoing servers.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click Next, and then Finish to complete setting up your email account.
